David Lutheran Church is dedicated to the idea that all its members can participate in the church’s song in some manner. To that end, we have recently purchased a 6 foot 3 inch Schimmel grand piano to share the sanctuary with our pipe organ. We also have two sets of Schulmerich handbells (a three octave set and a recently updated five octave set) and a three octave set of Malmark handchimes, besides the color-coded bells and boomwhackers that we use with children’s choirs. We have also added several percussion instruments to our program, including a set of three congas, two timpani, electronic drumset, and various other hand-held instruments. We also use other instruments (bass guitar, flute, trumpet, and various other brass) when called for to enhance our choir anthems or congregational song. The following musical ministries at David provide opportunities for praising God through music to all age groups. We welcome all who wish to find an expression of their faith through the talents for which they have been blessed, whether with vocal or instrumental. Most of our music groups rehearse on Wednesdays or Thursdays from September through May.
Adult ChoirsNo previous experience required to participate! Our focus is on all types of music (usually three to five octaves of moderate difficulty) appropriate for worship, with additions such as percussion, keyboard, flute, etc. Rehearsal: Thursdays 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. in the sanctuary ADULT (Senior) CHOIR Our 20+ member choir enjoys presenting a variety of styles of music by such composers as Joe Martin, Pepper Choplin, J. Paul Williams, David Lantz, Lloyd Larson, Mark Hayes, and Patti Drennan, to name a few. We often enhance our musical offerings with bass guitar, drums, congas, flute, trumpets, or other musical instruments. We also use choir members as cantors to intone or lead parts of our liturgy, such as the psalms, adding another musical expression to the assembly’s song. Rehearsal: Thursdays from 7:00 - 8:00 p.m. in the choir room. Youth ChoirsThis year we will be attempting to reorganize our children’s vocal and bell groups by age/ability levels with a beginner’s group and advanced group to rehearse on Wednesday evening in conjunction with a light dinner and rotating schedule including crafts, bible lesson, music (much like Bible School). The parents will have the opportunity to participate in adult bible study during that time. This would allow us to ring/sing for mid-week services (which would start at 7:15 p.m. during the Advent and Lenten seasons), besides the occasional appearance at the Sunday 10:30 a.m. worship service. Look for further details in the near future! Rehearsal: Wednesday evenings immediately following a light dinner (6:15 p.m.?) These are some of the opportunities available in David’s Music Ministry. We welcome all ages to our choirs or for special music (instrumental or vocal). We especially encourage Middle School and High School Youth to join our Adult Choirs or help us expand our ministry to include groups specifically designed for those age groups. This group consists of a mix of guitar and bass guitar players, keyboardist, drummer, and singers according to the style of music they are rehearsing for the week and the availability of personnel. Instrumentalists and singers are always welcome to join the group. Rehearsal: Thursday nights at 7:15 p.m. in the sanctuary Looking for a chance to harmonize old-time gospel hymns and other favorites? Come join us! Rehearsal: Selected Sundays, following late worship service Our Midweek Worship Song Team covers services during Advent and Lent, usually leading us in one of our favorites: Mary Haugen's Holden Evening Prayer. The leaders of this group are interchangeable and are always looking for other participants, whether singers or instrumentalists. Rehearsal: As needed, determined by the group |
